This impressive abstract large oil painting is inspired by many visits to Chanonry Point, near Fortrose on the Black Isle, Scotland. The view over the Moray Firth is one I have returned to my whole life and the spectacle of the weather systems moving across the Forth is breathtaking. Waterlogged, Chanonry Point was conceived on a wild and windy spring day standing on the beach waiting for the magical dolphins to appear.

Chanonry Point is a spit of land that projects into the Moray Firth creating a narrow channel between the point and Fort George on the other side. Its unique geography means that it is one of the best places in the UK to see Bottlenose dolphins. When the dolphins come to feed they gather close to the beach and can be seen leaping out of the water.

The painting is painted on canvas in oils and is professionally float-framed in a contemporary deep white moulding. The painting itself is 800 x 600mm.
The overall size is 840 x 640mm with a depth of 68mm.

When I work, I allow the paint to settle and move around, reacting with the surface and other pigments. The paint itself becomes the subject of the work as I coax and guide it over the canvas using brushes, palette knives, card, sticks.... anything around that isn't stuck down! I often incorporate elements of the location into the work, such as gravel, leaves, moss, soil, seawater, etc. This means it retains a memory of the place despite ending up in a place very far away.

Please note, actual colours may vary slightly as everyone's monitor displays colour differently
